When using a ladder the 2005 Work at Heights Regulations schedule 6 section 5 states:
The feet of a portable ladder shall be prevented from slipping by:

a. securing the stiles at or near their upper or lower ends; or
b. effective anti-slip or other effective stability device, eg. ladder stabiliser; or
c. Any other arrangement of equivalent effectiveness

1   Does it prevent movement away from the wall?
2   Does it prevent bottom slip?
3   Does it prevent top sideways slip?
4   Does it prevent ladder flip?
5   Does it allow safe unhindered access to and egress from ladders/roofs?
6   Does it provide a firm level base to work from?
7   Does it help prevent ladder blowing over in windy conditions?
8   Does it provide firm safe contact when leant against the corners of buildings?
9   Does it prevent the ladder leaning onto plastic guttering?
10   Does it allows the user to work at arms length and lessen the risk of coming off the ladder backwards
so, why safe ladder systems?
